What We Mean by Space

Elena Voss·20 December 2025·4 min read

When architects talk about space, they mean the relationship between solid and void — the way a room breathes, the way light enters, the way sound moves. When we talk about space at Elsewhere, we mean something related but more personal: the internal architecture of attention.

In our daily lives, that architecture is often cramped. Every corner filled with notifications, obligations, the low hum of ambient anxiety. Our retreats are designed to gently restructure that internal space — not through force or programme, but through environment.

The coast helps. The garden helps. The quality of light and the absence of urgency help. But the real space-making happens when you realise that the clutter was optional all along.
